    SPANDANA - A CSE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

    On 30th June, 2017 (Friday) the faculty members of CSE and various sponsors of Spandana visited Govt. Higher Primary School, Hannedoddi, Kolaganahalli post, Kanakapura taluk, Ramanagara District , Karnataka- 562112 between 9am to 4pm and distributed new / used school bags, lunch bag essentials, clothes, shoes, toys first aid kits to the school students.

    Training on “Basic Healthcare”

    Introduction

    Centre for Advanced Healthcare, DSU organized a training program on “Basic Healthcare” for Siemens’ employees that was conducted from 5th Jun to 10th Jun 2017 at the IBM Centre of Excellence in the CSE department. There were a total of 25 participants, 22 from Siemens and 3 internal participants.

    Objective

    SHPL wants to impart domain knowledge in the area of healthcare to its employees so as to improve their product knowledge and produce better quality software. With this objective in mind, they requested CAH to prepare and deliver such a training program.

    Socio-Tech Innovation Lab Care for Society - Progress Hackathon

    Date: 1st June’2017

    Time: 8am - 8pm

    Venue: ADA Lab, CSE Department,DSCE

    • The hackathon started at 8 am in the morning. Notebooks from SIL was handed over to each student to maintain for their projects and progress.
    • At 9am the registrations along with starting points and target were collected by Mrs.Preeti Satish.
    • Tea break was given at 11am.
    • The first review of project was done by Prof. Preeti Satish and Prof. Shwetha MD at 12pm.
    • Lunch break at 1pm and a small team building exercise was done during lunch.
    • After lunch all teams got back to the projects for the 2nd review at 3pm. Dr. DR Ramesh Babu and Dr.CPS Prakash did the 2nd review along with the faculty coordinators Mrs.Preeti Satish and Mrs Shwetha MD.
    • The final review was done at 6pm by Dr.Krishnan.
    • The projects got a significant boost from the initial stages. Most teams completed their targets.

    Workshop on Drupal

    It was conducted in Gallery Room for 6th semester students. Around 60 students have participated, out of which 56 students have cleared the test and have got the certificate. It was conducted for two days by the students of 6th Sem.

    Objectives:

    1. To facilitate students to showcase their technical capabilities and innovation
    2. To showcase the presentation skills of the students and their flair for research
    3. To encourage them to participate in inter disciplinary activities
    4. To appreciate and motivate them on their efforts

    Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering conducted OPEN DAY – A one day project exhibition of all 8th semester projects across all the departments of the college. Dr. T M seetharam, Professor, IISc was the Chief Guest at the inauguration event where the best projects from each department were showcased.

    Department of CSE, in line with the Open Day arranged for showcasing the CSE Final Year Projects in the department to the Invitees. Mr. Shashikanth, Scientist F from ADE, DRDO, Mr. Pramod, Alumni CSE, Mr. Pratul Mukhopadhyay, HCL Ltd, Ms. Nupur Gupta, IBM India and Mr. Vasudhendra Shroff, Former VP Genysis, parents, faculty and students from various branches.

    About 300 final year students presented their best and demonstrated their project work in 52 batches to the guests. The teams that worked on “Rule based expert system for smart home” and “Bio-Resource Level Management” were selected to demonstrate it at the inauguration event at Dr. Premachandra Sagar Auditorium.

    The Chief guests evaluated the projects and gave away prizes in the categories of

    1. Best Innovative Project – “Rule Based Expert System for Smart Home”
    2. Best Presentation – “Family Safety and Tracking Mgmtt - MyTracker - Android App ( Location Based Service )”
    3. Best Socially Relevant Project –“ Brain Controlled Chess Based on Virtual Reality Control For Paralyzed People”
    4. Best Project – “Web Based Project Management System “

    Also all the participants got certificates as a token of encouragement from the dept. The chief guests, Dr C P S Prakash, Principal, DSCE and Dr. Ramesh Babu Vice Principal & HOD, CSE, congratulated the students for their efforts.

      1. -Riyaz Pasha and Kiran Reddy : an IOT project to switch an AC fan on and off automatically depending on the suurounding temperature.
      2. Ayush Arora, Kumar Apurv, Priyangshu Roy : An suicidal help chat in collaboration with a suicidal helpline NGO named AASRA.
      3. Guhan Sunder,Mohammed Affan : An app driven by artificial intelligence to capture a picture from the camera of the phone and describe the object of scene in text and talk back.

    Proceedings of Joy of Giving Week 2017 This was an unique initiative taken by the department of Computer science and Engineering Department to organise this event inside the campus and help the under privileged.

    WORKSHOP ON LATEX

    Attended by : 8th Sem CSE Students Faculty Coordinators: Project Coordinators and 8th Sem Faculty Members Venue: Digital Classroom II Objective: Effective Project Documentation, Report writing and Research Paper Writing

    LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system; it includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation. LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents. LaTeX is available as free software.

    LaTeX is not a word processor. Instead, LaTeX encourages authors not to worry too much about the appearance of their documents but to concentrate on getting the right content.

    The workshop was conducted on May 4th 2017 by Sai Shree Charantimath of 8th Sem C Section for all the 8th sem students to be used in documentation of their project work. One day workshop on Latex was conducted with Hands on session and project report preparation tips.

    “Shubha Phutela Memorial Scholarships” for deserving girl students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was given away in the memory of our beloved student Late Ms. Shubha Phutela who passed away on 22nd October, 2012.

    Shubha won many accolades and awards as a student and participated in various beauty pageants in her short life. She also acted in the Tamil Movie “Maalai Pozhudin Mayakathilaey”. Shubha had been a model student of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Engineering from 2007 to 2011.

    The initiative taken by the Computer science and Engineering Department to guide the pre-final year students to get a preview of the corporate world . As a part of our pre-placement activities,we have a mentorship programmme .where, Final year students act as a mentor for pre final year students.

    3. Topic Was categorised into three:Contravercy,Factual,Abstract for GD

    Details of the Programme:

    1. This programme was conducted at Rooms 103,105,110,102 for the respective section A,B,C&D of VI semester students .
    2. Initially a session was held where final year students Suggested how to present your self for pre-final year students ,Followed by do’s and don’ts.
    3. Finaly a topic was given to pre-final year students. Where, teams were made consisting of 10 students in each group and group discussion went on .

  • IDEATHON - 2016:

    IDEATHON - 2016:

    “Ideathon”, was conducted by the department of CSE for all the first year students with the motive to help them participate and exhibit their talents in the form of idea presentation. This event was coordinated by Microsoft Innovation lab at CSE, under the able guidance of our Head of the Department. We had around 200 participants from various departments. The theme was “Smart Cities”.

    The event was inaugurated by the beloved principal Dr. CPS Prakash and vice principal Dr. Ramesh Babu DR on 24/09/2016 at 9 am. The student coordinators addressed the gathering on what is ideathon and what is expected at the end of the day.

  • Internship - MICROSOFT INNOVATION LAB:

    Microsoft Innovation Lab - Summer Internship Workshop 2016:

    The department of Computer Science and Engineering had conducted an internship program successfully for the students of CSE for the 2nd consecutive year as a part of Microsoft Innovation Lab during July-August 2016. The internship focused on providing hands on training to the selected summer interns of the MIL lab so that they start off on their Android and hardware app development projects.

    The summer internship of the Microsoft Innovation lab 2016 began an inauguration by the Principal of DSCE, Dr. C.P.S Prakash with motivating words to the interns. First session (one week) began with the training hands-on session on Android development given by fellow mentors of the lab, Mr. Darshan, Mr. Abhishek Kori, Mr. Rohan Kumar of 7th Semester CSE and Mr. Rajarajan of 5th Semester. Students of DSCE were greatly excited to learn and develop applications. Second session (one week) was on Hardware development given by Mr. Lokesh. Overall the interns had a great experience learning and developing new applications. The interns got first level App development experience and also got accustomed to their team members to work further on. The interns were also motivated to brainstorm and bring out innovative ideas in particular to real-time problems of the society. The students also came up with innovative projects using hardware kits/boards.

  • Inauguration of International Center for Global Education:

    Inauguration of International Center for Global Education:

    The department of Computer Science and Engineering in association with International Knowledge Center, Bangalore, has setup an office on campus for the students who are interested in pursuing their higher studies in the US. The office is located in the I Floor, Dr. D. Premachandra Sagar Auditorium.

    An inaugural function of the center was organized on September 03, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. The CEO of International Knowledge Centre Mr. Girish B, inaugurated the office along with 25 delegates of various US universities. The Principal of DSCE, Dr. C.P.S Prakash, Vice Principals Dr. Ramesh Babu D.R, Dr. Ramakrishna, Post Graduate Studies- Director Dr. Srinivasan, Heads of various departments, faculty and students of DSCE, graced the occasion. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Dayananda Sagar Institutions and International Knowledge Center.

    The SPOC from the International Knowledge Center is Ms. Sheela Thyagaraj who will be available at the Information Center at DSI.

    The Department of Computer Science & Engineering conducted a Technical Quiz competition entitled “Quiz Bowl” for 4th & 6th semester CSE A, B, C, D students on 6th May, 2016. The Quiz has been conducted with an intention to judge and enhance the understanding level of various core curriculum subjects. The students were excited to participate as they got the platform to assess their knowledge level acquired till date in different subjects they have studied.
