We have an ‘explorative’ method of education to enhance self-confidence and to improve communication skills among our students. This involves projects given to students who would need to do their research in the library with reference books, CD-ROMS or Videos and then present their findings using multimedia. Teachers closely oversee presentation skills and content. Group work, peer learning and discovery is the key to lasting learning at DSIS.
In DSIS, technology – aided lessons combine with group works to create a dynamic learning environment. A 600 sq. ft. area of classroom space each with 20-25 students allows for interactive learning. Students use the vast wall faces for displaying their learning through visual and concept maps and thus bringing alive the vertical spaces as dynamic reinforcements of learning. The Teacher – Taught ratio is 1:16. Technology- aided lessons include the use of OHP/LCD projections along with the Interactive White Boards (IWB).
HANDS ON EXPERIMENT
In DSIS, Students are free to experiment, be it in the sphere of academics or fine arts. Labs are interactive and classes are creative to bring out the best in students. Learning is not a burden here in DSIS. Exclusive and spacious laboratories for all branches of science and computers are furnished with every manner of apparatus and latest equipment to facilitate a hand – on learning experience. Every student experiences the excitement of using materials and apparatus in the laboratories in order to feel and experience scientific phenomenon on his own. In DSIS, experimental learning is the bed rock of life-long learning.
VALUE EDUCATION & AESTHETICS
Value Education forms an integral and important part of the students’ life towards building a good character. The pedagogy at DSIS is based on affording practical experience and direct participation to students in order to develop their critical thinking skills. In addition, the inclusion of art, music, dance and drama in the curriculum is based on the belief that exposure to art and culture is integral to the development of refinement, sensitivity and sense of aesthetics.
DSIS is permanently affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CSISE), New Delhi that administrates ICSE and ISC Public Examinations. English is the medium of instruction and is studied as the first language. Hindi and Kannada are offered as choices for the second and the third language. Computer Education is compulsory for all students from grade 1 onwards.
